Over the years, I’ve learnt to become truly comfortable in my own company. I still remember the first time I took myself out for a coffee, it felt unfamiliar and uncomfortable. But as time passed, I fell completely in love with those moments alone. In a world where we are rarely without noise or distraction, choosing solitude feels almost rebellious. We’re wired to be around others, yet it’s essential to step back and spend time getting to know ourselves. And of course, there’s no reason that can’t be done in style.
Dear Diary carries a distinctly Parisian sensibility, I wanted it to be a celebration of indulging in life’s small luxuries, even on a solo date. It’s a reminder that self-care isn’t always quiet or minimal, sometimes it’s bold, chic and wrapped in the confidence of choosing yourself.
I also wanted to weave a fashion influence through this piece, because style and self-discovery often go hand in hand. I’ve reinvented myself countless times, especially after years of feeling like I needed to fit in or keep up with trends that never felt like me. University changed that. Being surrounded by creative people made me finally think fuck it - I’ll wear what I love simply because I love it. This painting is an expression of that freedom: embracing personal taste without apology, dressing for yourself and letting your identity unfold on your own terms.
