This piece is a love letter to books. I’m an avid reader, it’s the only time my mind truly ever switches off. The composition features a handful of my personal favourites from the last few years, painted with a more instinctive, intuitive approach than I’ve allowed myself in the past. That spontaneity led to some unexpected perspectives and charming little details, the kind that only ever appear when you stop overthinking and simply let the work unfold.
Throughout this collection, I’ve learned to loosen my grip on perfection. After seven years as a graphic designer, discipline has become second nature; a skill I value deeply, but one that can sometimes stifle expression. This series has been a joyful departure from that mindset, giving me permission to be freer, messier and more comfortable with imperfection. To capture the essence of a thing without insisting it be pixel-perfect. Because, truly, the best things in life are always a little bit messy.
The books highlighted here all share a delicate humour while tackling very real subject matter - a tone I’ve tried to echo throughout Hot Mess. The collection’s title may sound lighthearted but my aim has always been to speak to something deeply true in many women’s lives: the small rituals that seem trivial from the outside but hold enormous meaning for us. These moments keep us grounded, focused, joyful. The quiet anchors in the beautiful chaos of everyday life.
