Comfort Food is a piece about so many things. On the surface, it’s a tribute to food - specifically pasta, which holds a very special place in my heart. I’m a self-proclaimed foodie and proud of it; there’s very little I won’t eat. But food is more than what’s on the plate, it brings people together. It’s a warm hug after a long, stressful day. It’s something to look forward to when you’re feeling low or navigating that time of the month. I wanted this painting to embody that ultimate feeling of cosiness - the kind that settles into your bones.
My mum is someone who treasures recipes, and like many people, I think she’s the best cook in the world. She doesn’t have a signature pasta dish, but I still wanted to give a subtle nod to her here, a quiet tribute woven into the comfort and nostalgia of the piece. My hope is that it reminds you of your favourite meal too: the one that feels like home, no matter where you are or what kind of day you’ve had.
